Traditional carnauba wax has been the default paint protection for decades because it's cheap and easy to apply. The problem is longevity: most waxes start breaking down within four to eight weeks of Nairobi sun, dust and rain.
A professionally applied ceramic coating bonds to the clear coat rather than sitting on top of it, which is why it can last two to five years depending on the product and how the car is washed afterwards.
The upfront cost of ceramic coating is higher, but when you divide that cost across its lifespan against re-waxing every month, coating almost always works out cheaper per year — and your car stays glossier for longer between washes.
The honest trade-off: wax can hide very light swirl marks better in the short term, and it's something you can top up yourself in an afternoon. Coating needs a proper paint correction first and professional application to perform as advertised.
